Our second outing of winter quarter was a great success! We, as coaches, are one step closer to helping our students in attaining a healthier lifestyle. The past week, we introduced our students to a balanced nutritious meal, healthier snack alternatives, and means of obtaining such foods. We accomplished these while making sure the students had a good time! We encouraged the students to create their own restaurant menus, which would consist of three healthy balanced meals. The students learned what a balanced meal looked like by filling their own plates with the correct proportions of grains, dairy, fruits, vegetables, and proteins. We went on scavenger hunts in grocery stores, where students located healthy foods including milk, pasta, apples, and more! We also must not forget about the mystery food tasting, where students blindly tasted healthy foods. We were pleased when students loved foods like yogurt, carrots, and soy milk! It wasn't only the students that learned...us coaches learned a lot from the past week also. We learned that a lot of the students are already eating very healthily, maybe even more so than us ourselves! All in all, with the hard work of the coaches and the enthusiasm of the students, our outings in the past week couldn't have been better!
